This week we have begun our spelling programme. Spelling will have a greater focus on understanding how the English language works and less on just giving words. We are looking to help all students have a good knowledge of the workings of the English language and it's intricacies. A list of words will be given each week to focus on the spelling sound.
In the first few weeks we are looking at reasons for a silent E. The word lists the children have should reflect these words.
Reasons for a Silent E
- Lets the
vowel say its name
eg made/cake, these, time/style, home, cute/rule
- English words do not end in a u or v
eg have, give, solve, blue, true, glue
