Senior Unit Camp 2016

Our Senior Unit Camp is fast approaching and it is getting a little exciting to say the least. Today a bunch of forms and information has come home about the camp and we are looking to get these back as soon as possible to help in our final planning stages.

Here is a copy of the note sent home today

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

SCHOOL CAMP 2016 - Year 6/7

The Immanuel Lutheran School annual camp for Year 6/7 students has been scheduled for Term 1, Week 6 in 2016.

The camp will be held at:                            Aldinga Camp
We will be departing:                                   Monday 7th March at 9:00am
Returning on:                                               Wednesday 9th March (at approx 3:30pm)

It is expected that all children will attend camp. School camp is an important facet of student learning and the IB’s Personal, Social and Physical Education curriculum. Aspects of the Health and PE Curriculum will be covered on school camp and in particular the Adventure Challenge component which is not easily covered on the school site. The following is an excerpt from the IB’s Personal, Social and Physical Education scope and sequence:
PSPE in the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) is concerned with the individual’s well-being through the promotion and development of concepts, knowledge, attitudes and skills that contribute to this wellbeing. Well-being is intrinsically linked to all aspects of a student’s experience at school and beyond. It encompasses physical, emotional, cognitive, spiritual and social health and development, and contributes to an understanding of self, to developing and maintaining relationships with others, and to participation in an active, healthy lifestyle.

Camp Fee:    Year 6/7           $295.00

Please remember that students in the Senior Unit no longer participate in swimming lessons during the 4th term. Essential elements of water safety and age-appropriate skill building are explicitly taught at this time.

Payment is then due by Monday 22nd February (Week 4). If you have any concerns about payment, please contact the school office by Friday 19th February, to discuss.

The attached Consent Form must be returned to classroom teachers by Monday 22nd February, (Week 4) so that we can confirm student attendance.

The medical and emergency contact forms and consent form are also attached. There is also a two extra consent forms which also need to be completed. One is for the surf education and one is for the Active Education leaders. Please complete these forms by the above mentioned date. Please don’t hesitate to call if you require further information.

Camp Aldinga is 45 km south of the city. The camp is a 15 minute walk to the coastal environment of Aldinga Beach with safe swimming at the 7 km long sandy beach. The Surfquatics program is run by Surf Life Saving SA instructors and is an accredited program. The curriculum covered by Surfquatics includes beach/surf awareness, beach related first aid, beach rescues and the use of equipment. When not at the beach students will be led in Group Development activities by Active Education.

Your child can expect to have lots of fun in a stimulating environment while you enjoy a slightly more relaxed and quiet time at home.

A little more information about the Surfquatics can be found here

More information to come in the upcoming weeks.
